President Hakainde Hichilema has urged the Copper Queens to remain focused as they make their debut at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to commence on 20th July, 2023.
Addressing the Copper Queens via video conferencing, President Hichilema says the government will take positive actions towards motivating the team during and after the World Cup.
Head Coach Bruce Mwape has assured the President that the team will not disappoint the nation as they will aim to qualify to finals, further confirming that the team is ready for the competition.
In addition, team Captain Barbara Banda is grateful to the Government for the step taken of allowing injured first choice goalkeeper Hazel Nali to stay with the team in New Zealand through out the World Cup.
Banda has also requested to the President for a consideration of rank promotions for the players, as many of them are in the defense forces perform through sports.
She has further requested for investments such as land for the girls, recognizing that sport is a short career which the President has taken note of.
