Green Buffaloes have once again demonstrated their dominance in Zambian women’s football by securing their fourth consecutive FAZ Women’s Super League title. The Buffaloes clinched the championship with a 2-0 victory over ZISD Women in the final match of the 2023/24 season.
The game started with a bang as Maweta Chilenga netted a goal in the very first minute. The lead was doubled in the second half thanks to an own goal by Penelope Lubelenga. This win took Buffaloes' total points to 90, three points ahead of ZESCO Ndola Girls, who finished the season with 87 points after defeating ZANACO Ladies 2-0.
Since the inception of the Women’s Super League four years ago, Green Buffaloes have been a formidable force. This season, under the guidance of Carol Kanyemba, the team remained unbeaten in 34 matches, boasting 28 wins and six draws. The Buffaloes scored an impressive 102 goals while conceding only 11.
ZESCO Ndola Girls had a strong season as well, marred only by their loss to Buffaloes. They ended the season with 27 wins and six draws, scoring 103 goals and conceding 19.
INDENI and Green Eagles FC rounded out the top four teams of the season. By winning the Women’s Super League title, Green Buffaloes will now represent Zambia at the COSAFA Women’s Champions League, which serves as a qualifier for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
On the other end of the table, National Assembly, Queens Sports Academy, Chipata Girls, and Kabwe Celtic Queens finished in the bottom four and will be relegated to the National Division One after a challenging 34-week season.
