In a heartwarming gesture of gratitude, Zambian football stars Grace Chanda and Prisca Chilufya have donated essential sports equipment to their former club, Red Arrows Women’s Football Club. The donation is a tribute to the club and the Zambia Air Force (ZAF), whose unwavering support has been instrumental in shaping their football careers.

The donation, which includes 20 agility hurdles, 30 footballs, 60 plate cones, 40 bibs, whistles, and 20 replica jerseys, was received by ZAF’s Chief of Training, Brigadier General Geoffrey Hambulo, on behalf of ZAF Commander Lieutenant General Oscar Nyoni.

Honoring the Club and ZAF

Grace Chanda, who spoke on behalf of both players, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the opportunities and support they received from Red Arrows and ZAF. Chanda also presented Lt Gen Nyoni with her Orlando Pride Championship medal, won during the USA National Women’s League last month, as a gesture of appreciation.

“We are deeply grateful for what ZAF and Red Arrows have done to shape our careers,” Chanda said. “This donation is just a token of our appreciation and a way to encourage others in the team to work hard and aim for even greater achievements.”

A Celebration of Success and Giving Back

Lt Gen Nyoni, in a speech read on his behalf by Brig Gen Hambulo, described the occasion as a celebration of humility, success, and the enduring spirit of giving back.

“This is more than just a donation. It is a powerful reminder to other athletes that success is not only about reaching the pinnacle of your career but also about remembering where you come from,” he said.

The Commander praised Chanda and Chilufya’s achievements, highlighting their roles as ambassadors for Zambia, both locally and internationally, with Chanda playing for Orlando Pride and Chilufya for FC Juarez.

“Grace and Prisca, you have made us proud. By excelling on the global stage, you represent ZAF, your families, and the dreams of countless young women across Zambia,” he said.

He encouraged other players at Red Arrows Women’s Football Club to draw inspiration from Chanda and Chilufya’s journey, emphasizing that success requires commitment, determination, and resilience.

Recognition and Future Aspirations

As part of the ceremony, Chanda and Chilufya presented Lt Gen Nyoni with their national team jerseys, numbered 10 and 25, respectively, which they wear during their Copper Queens duties.

In recognition of her achievements, Grace Chanda was elevated to the rank of Leading Aircraftwoman (LAC) in ZAF’s Non-Commissioned Corps.

The Air Force Commander concluded by assuring all players at Red Arrows Women’s Football Club that they remain part of the ZAF family and urged Chanda and Chilufya to stay grounded, focused, and humble as they continue to reach for greater heights in their careers.

This heartfelt event serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes, demonstrating the power of hard work, resilience, and gratitude. For Chanda and Chilufya, it’s a testament to their journey and their commitment to giving back to the community that nurtured their dreams.
