FAZ SUSPENDS REFEREES MANAGER

03.02.2024 | Football in my DNA

In a critical development, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) announces the immediate suspension of Referees Manager Aziph Banda. This decision, as conveyed by FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga, is a crucial step to facilitate investigations into concerns surrounding match officiating.

Kamanga explains that the suspension follows a comprehensive meeting by the FAZ emergency committee of the executive, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation. The decision is prompted by recurring allegations of match-fixing, victimization of whistle-blowers, and maladministration, which have led to numerous complaints from stakeholders.

FAZ acknowledges the seriousness of the situation and aims to protect the integrity of the game. The association invites individuals with relevant information to come forward and contribute to the investigative process. A specialized committee, centered around truth and reconciliation, will receive submissions from stakeholders, including suspended, sidelined, or retired referees.

"We are keeping the doors open, especially for retired or suspended referees who may feel unfairly treated, to come on board for the good of the game," says Kamanga.

FAZ remains committed to addressing potential fraudulent activities among match officials in collaboration with other stakeholders. This decisive action underscores the association's dedication to maintaining the highest standards of fairness and transparency in Zambian football.
