The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced that the Copper Queens will host a six-nation tournament in Ndola from 17th to 26th February 2025 as part of their preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco this July.
The tournament, which falls within the FIFA international window, is designed to provide the Copper Queens with the much-needed match practice to fine-tune their strategies ahead of the continental showpiece. FAZ President Andrew Kamanga confirmed the development in his weekly column, noting that the event will also give the newly appointed head coach, Nora Häuptle, an opportunity to get acquainted with the team.
“To get her [Häuptle] warmed up, we will be hosting a six-nation tournament next month in Ndola during the FIFA window,” Kamanga wrote.
The Swiss coach, during her unveiling, stressed the importance of playing friendly matches to ensure the Copper Queens are well-prepared. “In February, we are expected to play a tournament at home because we want to invite all Zambians to participate. I am curious about the crowd and the atmosphere,” Häuptle said. “We are setting a clear roadmap to ensure that in July, we’ll be ready.”
This six-nation tournament is expected to serve as a key step in helping the Copper Queens solidify their squad, build chemistry, and prepare for tough competition at WAFCON.
Stay tuned for more updates as the team embarks on this exciting journey to represent Zambia on the continental stage.
