Copper Queens get set for Ireland in Dublin

22.06.2023 | FAZ |

The Zambia Women’s National Team has held their final training session before taking on Republic of Ireland on Thursday at Tallaght Stadium in an international friendly in Dublin.

All tickets have been sold out for the game that will kick-off at 20h30CAT in what will be the first meeting between the two sides as both teams prepare for their debut FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance.

The Bruce Mwape led technical bench and players had a feel of Tallaght Stadium Wednesday evening as the Copper Queens put in their final shift for the first of three international friendlies lined up as part of the European camp in Germany.

Mwape said playing Ireland after settling in Germany for an international camp will offer the technical bench an opportunity to see the strides made by the team.

“We are ready to play tomorrow’s (Thursday’s game), the players have looked good in training and we are just waiting for the match to give our very best. It will not be an easy game but these are games we should be playing for us see how ready we are for the World Cup,” Mwape said.

On the other hand, Ireland coach Vera Pauw has challenged her plays to use Wednesday’s game to rise up to the challenge of one of Africa’s best teams.

“The reason we chose to play against Zambia is because we have Nigeria in our World Cup Group so we must be ready for that type of opponent. This game also adds to our preparation plan for the tournament and gives us an opportunity for players to get back onto the pitch again,” Pauw said.
